Thomas J. Steffanci, PhD
Senior Portfolio Manager
Thomas is a Senior Portfolio Manager and his main responsibilities include portfolio management and strategy, and economic and investment research. Prior to joining our team, he was involved in portfolio management and strategy at Trust Company of the West, Fidelity Investments, AER Advisors, Inc and Glencrest Investment Advisors, Inc.
Thomas earned a PhD in Monetary Economics from the University of Connecticut in 1978, a master’s degree in Economics and Finance from the University of New Hampshire in 1968 and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Providence College in 1966.
What is your personal motto or mantra?
My discomfort of self-discipline will never be as great as my pain of regret.
Outside of my professional career I am passionate about:
My children and grandchildren, staying healthy, being stress free.
What drew you to the wealth management industry?
The challenge of applying my academic background to the cycles of market behavior.

Sharing ideas that lead to actionable outcomes.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
Loire Valley in France.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given and how might this apply to your role here at BFSG?
Comfort zones are always cozy, but nothing ever grows there. Consensus thinking about markets is usually wrong but comfortable. Strive to step out of that shade and do the work.
If you were a superhero, what superpower would you have?
Making the Dodgers never to win the World Series again.
